Description
To begin with, today’s ride follows the Kennedy Highway in an easterly direction to Innot Hot Springs for 16kms. Depending on your trip plan, Innot Hot Springs is an excellent overnight stop with inexpensive cabins and camping. The road is hilly but relatively quiet. Early mornings see very few trucks.
Stop at Innot Hot Springs (was temporarily closed for refurbishing but now open and refreshed), even if it is a bit early, for a soak in the various hot pools. There are some snacks available for purchase. The bathing water is taken from the adjacent Nettle Creek where you can also dig your own ‘pool’.
Cross the bridge and turn right off the highway just through Innot Hot Springs and follow the Herbert River Road. This road is narrow but sealed. After 9.5kms turn left onto Mandalee Road. There is extensive agriculture (mainly cotton) along here and gas guns are employed to scare the birds. The gas guns are not dangerous but they do make a lot of noise!
Woodleigh Station is less than 8kms from Innot Hot Springs. This is a working cattle property that rents cabins and offers camping (T: Kate and Peter, 07 40 970 204).
You are now on Wooroora Road and travelling towards, and through, Glen Gordon Cattle Station. This is a public Road. There are two gates to pass through. As always, leave them how you find them. Continue on this road passing Blunder Creek on your right.
At the last grid through Glen Gordon Station there is an obvious cleared area after crossing the highway into Ravenshoe. You can take a break here and wander down to the creek for a refreshing dip.
After the only real hill on this road (it is generally very flat) you enter the outskirts of the Millstream Estate. After 40kms on the dirt you cross a causeway on Vine Creek and the road is now sealed. It is now gentle uphill all the way, past the local pony club until you reach the ‘T’ junction which is Tully Falls Road. Turn left and follow this road across the Highway and into Ravenshoe.
