Mount Garnet has a couple of mines operating in the region. It was once a rich tin mining area. Mining isn’t the only industry at Mount Garnet, some of the best cattle producing properties are in the district. Crops of mangoes, corn and other crops are grown on the nearby Herbert River.
Mount Garnet suffered throughout the Covid era and the only remaining pub is now shut. The only grocery shop is also shut.
